Sean Tyas Interview

Sean Tyas is a follower on Twitter as well as me, and I’ve noticed that he comments about a lot of stuff, especially about his shows (I’ve just read his tweet where he thanks his fans for such an amazing show in Chicago) He tweets with his nearly thirteen thousand fans who follow them in Twitter! That shows that he’s a really nice, sociable and modest person.
Therefore, he accepted to be interviewed by us; he’ll wait for this interview to be done and then, he’ll answer these questions. But, he won’t ask his manager to do that. On the contrary, he’ll do it on his own. Everything worked out better than expected, thanks to the excellent job made by our partner, Patricio Méndez (Administrator TranceWorld). I think he’s the most fanatic person of Sean I’ve ever known so far. Sean Tyas is a New Yorker man, who lives in Switzerland where he has gained the huge admiration and respect of the European trance public.

Being part of the new lineage of Trance Djs who have spread this music genre, Sean has stood out among his peers because of his particular mixing style, intensity and serenity… He has a recognizable trance sound. Many people listen to him on the most important radio shows, broadcasted by Djs such as Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten and Above & Beyond. Today, they’re looking for new talents, beta tracks and new sounds, so as to catch people’s attention and take them to a higher state.

Now, you’ll get to know more about him, exclusively here… in #Tranceworld.

Before starting with these questions, I want to thank you on behalf of my team for letting us interview you. Thank you very much for taking your time to do it.

1.- Tell us about your beginnings with electronic music. How did you get introduced to Trance?

Hmm, I suppose for me back in the late 90s, starting listening to sets from early PvD, Tiesto, Corsten, and Oakenfold. I was previously into Hardcore, Gabber, Jungle, & DnB, so this was a huge change for me, and a beautiful sound compared to the others.

2.- Who was your biggest inspiration? And has he influenced your music in any way?

I think it’s extremely obvious but my all time biggest inspiration was Paul van Dyk. He began this specific type of trance, and I don’t think anyone can deny that.

3.- 2006 was definitively a good year. Let’s say the ‘boom of Trance’, where several djs started walking, and then running, on the fields of Trance music. What has been the highlight of your career so far?

So far the highlight of my career really has been this year. Since playing the very important ASOT 500 Festival in Den Bosch earlier this year, and then doing my Tytanium Sessions 100 parties this year in New York, Montreal, and Miami, FOLLOWED by the 200,000 person Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas on the very same weekend, I can honestly say this year has been a major jump.

4.- It’s been a short time, only 5 years and your name is already well-known throughout the world… Was this what you expected? Did you imagine you would get this far?

I don’t know really. I never thought about that. But, I think looking back, and looking at all the other VERY talented competition out there, I can’t believe I made it this far.

5.- You’re part of a new generation of Djs, full of energy and fresh sounds. What do you think about being part this lineage that is giving a new face to Trance music? Tell us, how does it feel to be among the most important djs in the world? (According to Dj Mag…)

It shows me I need to work even harder now to continue to learn and grow. Apart from that, I don’t feel more or less special than any other DJ or producer on or off of that list.

6.- What inspires you to produce your tracks? If it’s a secret, we’ll obviously understand that.

Lately, my inspiration comes from my children. And knowing that what I am doing is directly coming back to them in some way. It makes me happier to make music with this in my mind, which leads to hopefully better music.

7.- Producing own tracks vs Remixing others… What do you prefer?

Depends on my mood. I think I get more satisfaction from making original productions, but remixing others is always a VERY fun and challenging thing.

8.- I must confess that your original tracks are amazing. They don’t need a remix at all (that’s my point of view). From all of them… what’s your favorite track? The one which has a special meaning for you.

Right now, not sure I think one of the new originals I have done for my album. Could also be the new collaboration I have done with Bjorn Akesson.

9.- If I’m not in a club and I want to listen to you tracks on my music player… what place would you recommend us to enjoy your music?

Driving in your car or working out in the gym. People seem to enjoy these sports the most.

10.- I’ve heard that your daughter has born! I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you… I’ve seen a pic of her and she’s very cute! You must be very happy about it.

Haha thank you! Yeah well it’s now my 2nd daughter, Kyla, and my 1st one is only 22 months old at the moment too so it’s a pretty crazy time right now in the Tyas house! :)

11.- What about your professional children? Lol I mean Tytanium Recordings. Your radio show Tytanium Sessions has celebrated its birthday lately. What do you feel when you read or hear about them? I think you’re proud of them.

VERRRRY proud about these “babies” :) . Well Tytanium Sessions just turned 100. And I feel it’s really reached a big point now, with a huge listener base, and I am also very pleased about the sound quality and how I unroll it each week on iTunes and Soundcloud. Tytanium Recordings is my newborn, and will be working just as hard on this creation now as well.

12.- Regarding to your radio show… tell us about the 3 events where you celebrated Tytanium Sessions Episode 100. I guess the biggest one was in NYC, what about Montreal and Miami?

NYC was definitely the biggest, with the most DJs on the lineup: Me, John O’Callaghan, W&W, Sied van Riel, Tom Colontonio, & Ryan Tyas, with vocal performances on the night by David Berkeley, Betsie Larkin, & Michele Karmin. Montreal was a PACKED house over at Circus Afterhours, and the lineup was me, Arnej, Simon Patterson, & Raneem. Then Miami which ended up being surprising great, was me, John O’Callaghan, & Sied van Riel.

13.- I’ve heard about 2 new vocal trance which has been released in Tytanium Sessions Episode 100… which are they?

Well 2 only from David Berkeley alone. I have a couple more vocal tunes done as well :) But the David Berkeley vocal tracks are called Believe and Take My Hand.

14.- We’ve just uploaded your radio shows to our website. Actually, your number one fan from Chile, Patricio Mendez (Administrator TranceWorld), did upload them. He’s one of our managers and he asked me if you could please dedicate some special words to him or just a greeting, so as to upload it to our website: www.tranceworld.org

Been speaking to Patricio back and forth for a while now on Twitter about the chance of getting over to Chile to play, I really hope to soon! Patricio seems VERY enthusiastic and if the fans in Chile are like him, then it should be amazing!

15.- What’s your opinion on South American audiences? You’ve already visited Argentina… We’d love to have you here soon.

Was also in Colombia & Brazil, and both of those were amaaaazing as well. I must say, South America is my favorite place in the world to play. Such passionate dancefloors.

16.- I’ve heard your name among the possible guests for Armada Night here in Chile… Even in your Twitter account I’ve read that there’s a chance for you to come over here… Is there any news about it?

I haven’t heard any updates so unfortunately, for now, that may not happen this summer, but hopefully by August or September something comes up!

17.- Would you like to say a few words to your fans who visit our website?

Thank you for taking the time to read the interview! Of course I can always be reached if anyone has specific questions regarding production or tracks and I really try my best to answer. www.seantyas.net (use the Contact page)

Once again, thanks! We wish you the best and we hope you keep on doing this amazing job in your musical career. A big hug over the distance!
